Salim, an 8-year-old first grader, now lives with his paternal grandparents after his parents, following their separation, dropped him off when he was only 9 months old. With his biological parents' whereabouts unknown, his caring grandmother has assumed full responsibility for his upbringing. However, as a family of peasant farmers with unstable incomes, they often struggle to afford basic needs and pay school fees. This financial hardship has adversely affected Salim’s performance, as he is frequently sent home from school—a setback that stands in the way of his aspiration to become a medical doctor.
