Nathan is a 4-year-old first grader living with his peasant farmer parents in a family of 10. The family’s income is unstable, as their small-scale farming is often hit hard by adverse weather and pests. Because of these challenges, Nathan has developed a persistent cough that hasn’t been properly treated due to high medical costs. Although his father supplements the family’s earnings by running a chapati stall and his mother earns extra through a small cloth business, their combined income still falls short in covering all essential needs.
