Shamim, a 10-year-old third grader, lives with her hardworking peasant farmer parents, who face constant financial challenges. The unstable yields from their small-scale farm make it difficult for them to cover both basic household needs and the educational expenses for their children. As a result, Shamim, who often endures bouts of malaria and a persistent cough, has not received the necessary medication. Yet, she brightens her days by playing netball with her friends.
