Dorcus is a 7-year-old third grader with excellent academic performance and a special talent in arts and crafts. She lives with her peasant farmer parents in a household of 10, where income relies on unstable farming yields and irregular casual labor wages. Financial struggles often force the children to miss school due to unpaid fees, and there is constant worry during illnesses. Additionally, Dorcus suffers from a condition that causes paralysis and muscle pulls in her legs and toes, for which she has not received proper treatment. Despite these challenges, she remains determined to excel academically and transform her family and community.
