Michael, a resilient 14-year-old boy in grade four, lives with his paternal grandmother after being abandoned by his mother at a young age. His jobless father also resides with them, depending on his parents for support. Michael's grandmother, a hardworking peasant farmer with limited resources, supplements her income by brewing and selling local brew (waragi) to provide for her large family’s basic needs and education. However, the overwhelming number of dependents and her modest income create significant challenges, making it difficult for Michael and his siblings to access quality education. Despite these struggles, Michael remains steadfast in his aspiration to become a teacher, driven by his desire to support his family and contribute meaningfully to his community.
