Levi, a 5-year-old first grader, lives with his maternal grandmother because his parents’ overcrowded and small home is unsuitable for their large family. His parents, both peasant farmers, face financial challenges that make it difficult to provide basic needs, quality education, or proper medical care for Levi. He suffers from persistent nosebleeds and head rushes, which have left white patches on his scalp. His grandmother, also a peasant farmer with other dependents to support, does her best to care for Levi with occasional assistance from his parents.
